Thomas Allen Harris is a renowned filmmaker and professor of film & media studies at Yale University. He has been recognized globally for his critically acclaimed films and television shows, including the NAACP Image Award-winning Through A Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People. His own journey in the sciences, as well as his experience as a biology graduate of Harvard University, inform this film and his company, Chimpanzee Productions, which is dedicated to producing innovative audiovisual experiences that shed light on the human condition. Harris' first PBS documentary, CRISIS: Who Will Do Science? (1989) explored the reasons behind the dearth of minorities pursuing careers in the sciences. My Mom, The Scientist picks up where CRISIS left off and will be informed by 30 years of Harris' film, media arts and scholarship.
