This April, our team faced a major setback. Under the new presidential administration, our project was deemed to be “unaligned” with the National Science Foundation’s updated priorities, and our $3.2 million grant from the NSFNational Science Foundation for Scientists in the Family—which included finishing funds for this film—was suddenly terminated. In reality, our work rebuilds trust in STEM by uplifting the voices and stories of underrepresented scientists. The film will not only inspire future generations to pursue careers in science, but also empower them to become agents of change in their communities.
This was a heartbreaking blow, but making art has always been about getting scrappy. We’re not giving up.
